A coalition of social justice activists and Democrat lawmakers proposed a new law in the Olympia legislature to reduce the legal threshold for charging police officers with using deadly force on suspects. HB 2907 stems from the Olympia police officer who shot 2 skateboard wielding step-brothers who attacked the officer after a foot chase in connection with a grocery store shoplifting complaint. The Thurston County Prosecutor did not charge the officer after an investigation found the officer complied with use of force conduct in the shooting.
