Pierce County Sheriff's deputy Daniel McCartney was killed in the line of duty by a suspected home invasion burglar as he responded to a 911 call about the break-in near Frederickson WA just before midnight on Sunday January 7th. McCartney died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma early the next morning despite surgery to treat his gunshot wounds.

Tacoma Pierce County Crime Stoppers and TAPCO Credit Union are coordinating the only official "Legacy Fund" for Deputy McCartney's widow and their three sons, ages 9, 6, and 4. If you have the ability and inclination to support McCartney's surviving family, please use the above links or visit a TAPCO Credit Union branch to contribute to the fund in his name.

KVI offers our sincerest condolences the McCartney family and our eternal gratitude for his service and ultimate sacrifice to protect the people of Puyallup, Frederickson, Graham, Spanaway and Pierce County.
