KVI morning drive talk show host John Carlson reached the summit of Mt. St. Helens on June 12th, ascending the volcanic peak for the "Climb To Fight" fundraiser for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Carlson has now scaled the summits of all five volcanoes in the Washington Cascades (Mt. Baker, Glacier Peak, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens). Carlson told KVI's Kirby Wilbur that clouds surrounded the hiking team all the way up to the top but began to break around the 6,500-foot level (as pictured here) during their descent of the 8,366 peak.
"Picture walking up a hill (mostly in snow) six miles long, ascending the height of nine and a half Space Needles stacked one on top of the other. That's Mt. St. Helen's." Carlson explained, "Glorious but difficult."
If you want to donate to support "Climb to Fight" and Carlson's efforts, you still can! On Thursday, June 29th, all Brown Bear Car Wash Tunnel locations will donate $1 to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center to help find a cure! Find all of the details here.
