New data shows that 1 out of 6 Washington public school students are chronically absent from school (not tardy, but absent). The percentage of chronically absent is actually going up based on these new statistics. KVI's John Carlson and Kirby Wilbur discuss what it will take to reverse this trend, what the cultural demographics show about these absentee rates and what this means as the Washington Legislature and Gov. Jay Inslee will eventually decide about significant spending increases for public school funding.
