Tacoma School District teachers vote today at 11am PDT on a new labor deal that will end an eight day strike and it would send students back to school for Monday September 17th, 2018.

No details of the tentative deal have been revealed so far but a joint statement by the district and the teacher union said the deal will allow the district to recruit and retain strong teachers. However, it states without changes in state funding Tacoma Schools will "face painful cuts."

Previously, the Tacoma School District had announced a salary increase offer of 12.45% up from an initial offer of 3.1%. The 12.45% offer had been previously rejected by the Tacoma Education Association negotiators. The district says more than $18 million is going to teacher pay.
