Warning for drivers as I-90 Express Lanes close completely in June

The I-90 bridge express lanes (middle) sit empty in this KOMO News file photo and that's where the coming Sound Transit light rail tracks will be constructed starting in June 2017 to provide mass transit service from Seattle to Bellevue, WA.

Drivers crossing the I-90 floating bridge between Bellevue and Seattle will be confined to 'mainline' sections of the freeway starting in June this year as the express lanes and current HOV lane are permanently closed to facilitate construction of Sound Transit's light rail line across the bridge. KVI's John Carlson interviews Sound Transit's communications director, Geoff Patrick, about when the express lanes close in June, how the new HOV lane(s) will work on the mainline portion of I-90 and the engineering difficulties crews continue to face as they build the new light rail tracks across the floating bridge.
