Cost of living and “affordable” housing continue to be contentious and intertwined issues in the Washington Legislature dividing majority Democrats and minority Republicans in Olympia.
KVI’s morning host, John Carlson, was joined today by legislative reporter for TheCenterSquare.com, Carleen Johnson, who has been tracking three bills in the Olympia legislature that would impact cost of living in Washington if they’re approved and signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee.

HB 2049 creates new requirements for food producers who package goods in cardboard or plastic that will be collected at curbside recycling pick-up. HB 1433 would allow cities to tally a “home energy score” when a house is sold. HB 1433 has already passed the State House and now goes to the Senate. HB 2114 would cap rent increases and place limits on move-in and late payment fees charged by landlords.
