Inside the Movement: Why DOGE Washington Is Sparking a Grassroots Awakening That You Can Join

What started as a spontaneous on-air comment when I said, “We really need a DOGE Washington,” made my inbox explode.

What began as an off-the-cuff remark turned into a grassroots groundswell. Listeners wanted in. Messages flooded in. People weren’t just intrigued—they were ready to get to work.

DOGE Washington is quickly becoming a movement of everyday citizens turning watchdog. Now, it’s more than just a catchy name — it’s a mission.

To understand what it’s all about, we spoke with Glen Morgan, a longtime government watchdog and founder of We the Governed, who’s helping lead the charge.

Training a New Generation of Citizen Watchdogs

“We’re holding DOGE Washington training sessions across the state,” says Glen. “This is about helping people learn how to investigate fraud, waste, and abuse in government.”

From understanding how to file public records requests to digging through budgets and financial disclosures, the DOGE Washington training offers a toolkit for those ready to roll up their sleeves.

“People don’t always realize how powerful they are,” Glen added. “If you’ve worked in a government agency—or even just interacted with one—you probably know something worth digging into.”

In fact, Glen says that most of the best leads come from people who thought they only had one story.

“It starts small,” he explains. “One story about a kickback or misused funds, and suddenly others come forward saying, ‘You think that’s bad? Wait until you see this.’ That momentum is powerful.”

From Listeners to Investigators

The original volunteers? Just regular listeners of my show.

They started Googling. One person found the Washington Checkbook account. Another started searching grant recipients using terms like ‘immigrant’ or ‘sex,’ and what they found was mind-blowing.

The findings often led back to questionable spending, eyebrow-raising grant allocations, and all-too-familiar political connections.

And that’s where DOGE Washington comes in—arming people with the knowledge to do more than just rant on social media. It’s about action.

You Don’t Need a Degree—Just Curiosity and Courage

“You don’t have to be a lawyer or journalist,” Glen emphasizes. “You just need to care and be willing to show up.”

DOGE Washington provides that path. Training includes how to organize into teams, cross-reference voucher lists, analyze contracts, and more.

“I’ve been doing this for over a decade,” Glen says, “but now we’ve got the best name for it yet—and a growing army of people who want to help.”

Plus, there’s a bit of fun woven in. We’ve got our Husky mascot in an Uncle Sam outfit saying, ‘We want YOU for DOGE Washington. It’s serious work — but we’re keeping it light-hearted where we can.

Get Involved: The Future Belongs to Those Who Show Up

DOGE Washington isn’t just an idea—it’s happening.

Trainings are already scheduled in Tumwater, Marysville, and Tacoma, with more on the way. Can’t make one? More sessions—and even advanced trainings—are being added across the state.

“This is a movement you can be part of, no matter your background,” Glen says. “And remember—the future belongs to those who show up.
